If you’re into cold brew coffee,you most probably recognize that the extraction science is completely different than the traditional hot brewing methods. When it concerns water temperature, the barista is looking for “not hot.”

Cold brew is brewed by soaking medium-to-coarse coffee beans in water at room temperature or colder. Considering that water is very cold we need to soak for over 12 hours. At the end of the immersing time we then strain the coffee grounds for a clear cup. Compared to ordinary joe, cold brew coffee it is not exposed to temperatures over room temperatures.

Certainly there is confusion involving cold brew vs. iced coffee. Although actually we serve both cold,there is a great difference when comparing the two.
Iced coffee is just about any coffee that was cooled and is served with ice cubes. If you want to make an iced coffee, you can use cold or hot brew, even espresso, if you wish. The most important is to cool the beverage.

On the other hand, cold brew is a coffee that was certainly not boiled during brewing. This is what makes it distinct and it gives its extraordinary properties. We can serve cold brew coffee at room temperature,or chilled with ice cubes.

The most popular brewing method is immersion cold brew which is employed commercial and home preparation. This is the most basic solution and the most practical.
Another method is Dutch cold brew, or cold drip and consists of dropping ice over a bed of coffee grounds, in the same manner to hot-brew coffee procedures.

One point to note is that coffee prepared at room temperature is quite different from the one prepared in the fridge and this will create a difference in how much flavor you get in your coffee and how fast it will be ready. You have to calibrate your total steeping time appropriately (10-16 hours at room temperature; 16-24 hours refrigerated).

The extraction in cold water changes the chemical composition of the cold brew coffee, and we get in turn a cup of joe that is a totally different beverage from your regular drip coffee, or espresso.
